The Indian Red Cross Society is a voluntary humanitarian organization, established by an act of the Indian Legislature in 1920, having on its rolls the states, the union territories, the districts and the sub-district branches. Its activities are being directed & forward to the “Prevention of Diseases, Improvement of Health and Mitigation of Suffering”. The Indian Red Cross Society realized the importance of the youth way back in 1925 and established Junior Red Cross (JRC) in schools and Youth Red Cross (YRC) in colleges

The main purpose of organizing the Youth Red Cross is

        Z   To inculcate moral responsibility in the Youth of our country

        Z   To create an awareness on the care of their own health and that of others

        Z   To develop  understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and acting accordingly with humanitarian concern, to fulfill the same

        Z   To enable the growth and development of a spirit of service and sense of duty with dedication and devotion in the minds of youth

        Z   To foster  friendly relationship with all without any discrimination

  Principles of Youth Red Cross:


Youth Red Cross has the following three principles:

          1. Protection of Health & Life

          2. Service to the Sick & Suffering

          3. IPromotion of National & International Friendship, to develop the mental and moral capacities of the youth.

   Youth red cross unit:

          The Vignesh Nursing College established its YRC Local Unit in the academic year of 2009 -2010.The unit has a total membership of 246 students. The Youth Red Cross wing of our College is proud to reveal its activities that took place during the academic year 2009 -2010

          It is a group movement organized at the initial stages for students between 18 and 25 years of age within the colleges. A qualified lecturer is recognized as the leader and he is called the Programme Officer under his guidance, the students are trained and encouraged to manage the affairs of the group, electing their own office-bearers.

11th July 2016B.Sc (N) 2nd and 3rd year students participated in the world population day rally organized by Joint Directorate of Health Services, Tiruvannamalai. District Collector Mr.Rajendran inaugurated function.
18th June 2016 B.Sc (N) 3rd and 4th Year students participated International Yoga Day programme organised by ISHA society, Tiruvannamalai branch. A full demonstration of Yoga exercises were taught to 250 students in the college campus.
01st March 2016B.Sc (N) III year students (44 Nos) participated in the rally on “Prevention of Female feticide” by holding placards to highlight on the theme. The rally was inaugurated by District collector Mr. Gnanasekaran which was started from collector office and ended at Tiruvannamalai Temple.
24th February 2016Medical camp was organized by Vignesh Nursing College, Tiruvannamalai in collaboration with Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College & Hospital, Tiruvannamalai at kosalai village, Tiruvannamalai. 15 B.Sc (N) II year students participated in the medical camp and students have done activities like registration, assessment, checking vital signs.
23rd February 2016Medical camp was organized by Vignesh Nursing College, Tiruvannamalai in collaboration with Tamilnadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University, Chennai and Thurinjapuram primary Health Centre, Tiruvannamalai. Medical camp was inaugurated by Principal Dr.S.Vijayalakshmi, Vice principal & faculty members of Vignesh Nursing College, Mangalam PHC block medical officer Dr. S. B. Raja, Thurinjapuram PHC medical officer Dr. R. Meenakshi, Sorokulathur PHC medical officer Dr. R. Ezhilmaran and Mangalam PHC School health education medical officer Dr. G. Saiviswanath. Mrs. R. Jayalakshmi, Associate Professor to highlight the significance of Health, Environmental sanitation as a life time primary goal for the community people. This was followed by Role play enacted to create awareness on Dengue fever, its control & prevention strategies by B.Sc (N) IV year students. Pamphlet on awareness regarding community Health & Environmental sanitation was distributed to 500 members in the community area regarding Environmental and Personal hygiene, prevention and control of Dengue fever, Non communicable diseases and its control and prevention. Tree saplings ware planted in 100 different places in the community area.
21st February 2015Intensified Pulse polio programme conducted by primary health center, thandarampattu. B.Sc (N) IV year students conducted house to house survey and instilled polio drops to children below 5 years .
1st February 2016National deworming day celebration was conducted at Thenmudiyanur, Krishnapuram and Ranganathapuram. B.Sc (N) IV year Students have done home visit and provided Tab. Albendazole for Children between 2 to 19 yrs of age group.
01st February 2016B.Sc (N) students participated in creating kitchen garden at Vignesh Nursing College premises as part of Youth Red Cross activity by planting and sowing the radish, ladies finger, spinach seeds and brinjal saplings.
17th to 19th January 2016 Intensified Pulse polio programme was conducted by urban health post Kilnathur. 50 B.Sc (N) IV year students participated by conducting house to house survey and instilled polio drops to children below 5 years.
13th January 2016B.Sc (N) IV year students conducted School health programme at Middle School, Thenmudianar. Students created the awareness through Villupattu and posters regarding Dengue Fever. 300 School students were covered in this programme.
12th January 2016B.Sc (N) IV year students presented a role play on “Prevention of Dengue Fever” for the children and care takers in Pediatric ward, Government Medical College & Hospital, Tiruvannamalai.
10th December 2015Antenatal Clinic conducted by B.Sc (N) IV year students at Kizhnathur, Urban Primary Health Center. 42 antenatal mothers attended and students performed the activities like Assessment, Palpation, Health teaching on Diet during pregnancy and prevention of high risk pregnancy, schemes and benefits for pregnant mothers.
27th October 2015 Indian Red Cross Society, TamilNadu Branch & Youth Red Cross Society awarded Vignesh Nursing College with certificate of appreciation 2013 – 2014 for the best performance in the YRC movement on the eve of 65th Anniversary of Geneva Conventions Celebrations conducted in the Thiruvallur University, Vellore.
10th October 2015B.Sc (N) 2nd year students (56 Nos) participated in the World Mental Health Day rally organised by Appa Mental Hospital, Tiruvannamalai. District Collector Mr. Rajendran and Authorities of Appa Mental Health Hospital team members inaugurated the rally.
11th July 2015 B.Sc (N) 2nd, 3rd & 4th year students (43 Nos) participated in world population day rally organised by Joint Directorate of Health Services, Tiruvannamalai. Mr. Rajendran District Collector inaugurated the rally and narrated on population control, contraceptive devices and small family norm.
18th to 20th June 2015 As a part of National Leprosy Eradication Program, Leprosy Survey Program was planned and conducted by Kattampoondi Block PHC from. Dr. S. Vijayalakshmi, Principal, Vignesh Nursing College, Dr. Mrs. Bhuvaneshwari, BMO, kattampoondi Block PHC and Concerned Health Team Members gave a small lecture on Leprosy and details of collecting information on leprosy detection from the family members. 150 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B.Sc (N) students and 10 faculty members from Vignesh Nursing College conducted house to house survey. Students participated for detecting Leprosy cases and its Symptoms in 83 villages comprising more than 60,000 population covering Tiruvannamalai Panchayat Union. In this survey, students identified 2 leprosy confirmed cases and 4 cases with symptoms yet to be diagnosed
24th March 2015Rally to highlight on the prevention of female Infanticide was organized by Joint Director of Health Services, Tiruvannamalai. Totally 91 students and two faculty members participated in the rally from Taluk office to Annamalaiyar Temple.
22nd February 2015Intensified Pulse polio programme was conducted by Urban Health Post, Anna nagar. 90 B.Sc (N) II, III, IV Year students participated in the programme. Students conducted house to house survey and gave polio drops to children below 5 Years.
10th February 2015Health talk was organized and conducted by Vignesh Nursing college to 100 College of Education (B. Ed) students at Vignesh college of Education Auditorium. Mrs. R. Jayalakshmi, Head of the Department, Community Health Nursing& B.Sc (N) IV Year students presented the powerpoint presentation on topics - Personal Hygiene, First aid management, Dengue fever, Menstrual Hygiene and Breast self examination
30th January 2015Mosquito born –Source reduction program was conducted by Mr.Harikrishnan Health inspector and Mr.Rajendra kumar, Health supervisor, Joint Director of Health Services, Tiruvannamalai at Vignesh Nursing College. 20 B.Sc (N) YRC Volunteers and 5 teachers formed 5 team under the guidance of Source reduction program volunteers to do a survey on Dengue source detection.
22nd January 2015Swachh Bharath Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) – National youth day Programme was organized and conducted Mr.Poova Ragavan. Asst professor presented on Swachh Bharath Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) – National Youth Day. Four Clinical instructors presented about Clean India , Green India. Faculty and students have taken Swachhta pledge delivered by Mrs.Jayalakshmi, Asst professor. Faculty and students engaged in the campus cleaning activity, cleaning class rooms, & all laboratories and cleaning college garden ,planting trees.

23rd February 2014On behalf of Chief minister Dr. J. Jayalalitha’s birthday, Tiruvannamalai Medical college Hospital organized Health camp to diagnose and treat both the Acute and chronic disease condition for the public of Tiruvannamalai. 30 B.Sc(N) students from Vignesh Nursing College along with one Assistant Professor actively participated in the camp. Total 1960 people attended the camp.
7th December 2013 Rally on Prevention of HIV /AIDS was organized and conducted by Vignesh Group of Colleges to create awareness among the public. 60 B.Sc(N) Students & one faculty participated in the rally holding placards highlighting the cause and prevention of HIV / AIDS. B.Sc (N) I year student gave a speech about HIV / AIDS causes, prevention & issues to media.
22nd January 2013Mass health education programme on prevention of dengue fever was conducted at karunkali kuppam, kilpennathur by B.Sc (N) IV year students . Skit on effect of siddha medicine on dengue fever, villupattu regarding allopathy treatment for dengue fever and group song on causes and prevention of dengue fever and also puppet show on availability of treatment measures in various clinical setting like PHC, GH
